Common Sense

These days, what we consider Common Sense is a rare guest in many organizations that drown in corporate bosses’ fads and whims, endless senseless conference calls and meetings, and ‘PowerPoint management’ – all wasting precious time of employees and money of shareholders. Scott Adams has been wittily ridiculing these corporate stigmas in his epic Dilbert series for some three decades. By contrast, in designing, restructuring or streamlining organizations and processes and in improving performance, we strongly rely on this single most powerful tool – Common Sense with its intrinsic subsets such as Clear Goals and Strategy leading to Commitment and Buy-In of the Team, Follow-Up on Milestones, and Responsibility for Results.

Zoom In/Out

Complex challenges faced by most companies nowadays require a holistic approach and “zoom in and out” technique. It is where one should keep the big picture in view while being able to drill down to the smallest detail, or “see the forest and the trees at the same time”, when designing efficient and lasting solutions to address those challenges. Business Tailors do possess this “zoom” skill allowing for instant switching between the bird’s eye view and the very down-to-earth operational level and vice versa.

3P

People: we use 10/80/10 principle while working with people, i.e. we closely work with 10% of self-motivated staff members with burning eyes, passionate about their work. Together with them, we devise working processes and routines facilitating efficiency and results, and spread those processes among 80% of conforming employees.

Processes: we only believe in processes that bring results. In other words, we hold firm objectives and goals, while we are flexible with methods, processes and tools that lead to achieving those goals. Only proven processes and routines are ‘cast in stone’ as long as they really add value and efficiency to business.

Problems: Two thirds of problems are often related to processes and systems, and one third to people. It is also true that "a bad system will beat a good person every time". Therefore, in addressing the problems we need to look closely at Processes and tools to rectify those hampering productivity and efficiency of People.
